St. John's Wort Plant as Effective as Prozac

A study at the Centre for Complementary Medicine in Munich has compared the benefits of St. John's Wort to Prozac and found that the benefits to the herbal supplement were similar to the prescription drug Prozac.

Overall, the St John's Wort extracts tested in the trials were superior to placebo, similarly effective as standard anti-depressants, and had fewer side effects than standard anti-depressants

A separate study has found St John's Wort, available in countless health shops, is the only alternative medicine proven to have an effect.

Others, including ginseng, liquid tonic, cat's claw, gingko biloba and royal jelly, had no firm base in evidence and could be dangerous when taken with other drugs, according to the study by St James' University Hospital in Leeds.

Does your condition merit Social Security benefits?

There are government programs in place that are supposed to help you when you are unable to work due to illness or injury. Mental illness or physical disease, it doesn’t matter. If you have a severe mood problem that prevents you from working regularly, you DESERVE to receive bipolar disability benefits from Social Security.
But how do you prove that your bipolar or manic depression is a disabling disease? What if you have Type I? Type II? Rapid cycling? What if your symptoms are primarily due to clinical depression rather than classic bipolar?
There are no standard medical tests for bipolar like there are for most physical diseases. Especially with cases involving mental disorders, every sign and symptom must be correctly documented before you can win Social Security disability benefits.
If you are interested in finding out more about potential benefits, get The Insider's Guide To Social Security Disability”.
