» Bipolar Drug Increases Worm’s Lifespan

There is a lot of buzz on the news sites now that the drug Lithium, most commonly used for treating Bipolar Disorder, can significantly increase the lifespan of worms. 

It is not yet known whether people taking lithium might also benefit in a similar manner with an increased lifespan.

In the study, scientists discovered the worms’ longevity increased when the lithium reduced the activity of a gene that modulates the basic structure of chromosomes.

Not that the lifespan of worms has anything to do with humans or mood disorders, but who knows, all that lithium may make you live forever! :)
